I'm hosting "Social Impact of Digital Youth : What are we looking for?" unconference a

During this final stage of my PhD, I'm keen to make my research 'alive' and share the outcomes of my 3-year research project with the 'digital youth' community in Scotland. I'd like to invite you to an event I'm organising on 29th May in Edinburgh (10.00 - 15.30). The purpose of the event is to bring digital youth workers, young people, funders and evaluators together to discuss some of the evaluation problems identified in the project and to co-create possible solutions/ways-forward.

This is a relatively small event for a maximum of 50 people, so make sure to book your space soon

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions and I'll try to get back to you as soon as possible. Finally, feel free to share the event with anyone that could be interested in this topic.

I look forward to catching up with some of you in May.

What are the challenges and opportunities associated with social impact evaluation of digital youth project in Scotland?

Join us on the 29th of May at Edinburgh Napier University to learn about the outcomes of a three-year study examining how youth workers and young people in Scotland experience social impact evaluation. The research project was carried out by Alicja Pawluczk, a PhD student at the School of Computing at Edinburgh Napier University. Since 2016, Alicja worked with digital youth workers (20) working in Scotland and 3 groups of young people to better understand how they perceive and feel about the process of social impact evaluation. The final analysis of the doctoral research project will be presented at the event.

The aim of our mini unconference is to bring young people, digital youth workers, digital project funders and evaluation specialists together to discuss the findings of this project and to co-create possible solutions to the identified problems.

Our findings indicate that there is a need for all stakeholders to openly and critically examine their experiences of evaluation - both as evaluation facilitators and participants. The aim of the unconference is to provide space where honest and meaningful conversations about impact evaluation can take place.

To better understand young people's digital needs in Scotland (such as 21st-century skills. digital literacy, well-being in the digital age), we'd like to provide an opportunity for all participants to interact with our research findings. The schedule for the event is as follows:

  • 10.00 - 12.30 Research Outcomes and Experts Workshop/Presentation (details to TBC)

  • 12.30 - 13.30 Lunch provided

  • 13.30 - 15.30 Participant-led workshops and conclusions

To encourage young people's participation in the event, we have a small budget to pay for young people's travel expenses - please contact Alicja Pawluczuk for further details (a.pawluczuk@napier.ac.uk).
